Road Paving Coming to Parts of Elyria-Swansea and Globeville

Paving season for 2023 has begun with the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) announcing paving projects in Globeville, Elyria and Swansea.

In Elyria and Swansea, arterial and collector roads like Steele Street, 40th Avenue, 48th Avenue, York Street, Josephine Street and Race Street will undergo repaving. In addition, neighborhood streets in Elyria-Swansea between Vasquez Boulevard on the east, York Street on the west, 50th Avenue on the north and Interstate 70 on the south will all be repaved.

A handful of blocks immediately south of the National Western Event Center will also be repaved. In Globeville, Franklin Street along with 53rd Avenue and 54th Avenue will be repaved near Heron Pond. Several blocks of Broadway south of 43rd Avenue will be repaved, along with several blocks of Washington Street south of Interstate 70.

In addition, neighborhood streets west of Interstate 25 and north of Interstate 70 will also be repaved. On average, residential side streets are repaved around every 15 years. The streets that have more traffic like collector and arterial streets are repaved about every seven to 10 years.

There will be two different crews working on each street. The milling crew will remove the old asphalt. Following them, as weather permits, will be the paving crew, who will put down new pavement. Typically residents will get a message on their door a few days before paving begins, and no parking signs will be placed on the streets at least 24 hours before paving crews begin work.

Residents can also get updates on the paving schedule at denvergov.org/ denverpaving. If a resident leaves their car on the street the day of paving, their car will be ticketed with a fine and towed, typically just a few blocks away. If your car is towed and you can’t find it, you can call the nonemergency line at 720-913-2000 to locate it.

For the rest of the neighborhood streets that are not being repaved, residents can always report potholes by calling 311 on their phones. DOTI crews will typically respond to repair the street within a matter of days.
