Homecoming evokes memories of football, cheerleaders, floats, parades, and kings and queens. There won’t be any of that pageantry in Globeville on Saturday, Oct. 5, but Holy Rosary invites anyone with a connection to the parish for a celebration it’s calling “Homecoming.”
Were your grandparents or great grandparents among the founders of the church? Did your family discover the parish in the 1960s and ’70s, or maybe in the last 10 years? Were your relatives married in the church or attend Holy Rosary School? Did you receive your sacraments there? Did you attend any parish bazaars, bingo nights or pancake breakfasts?
Join the Holy Rosary community on Oct. 5, near the feast of Holy Rosary, with Mass at 10 a.m., including Slovenian hymns sung by Joann Birsa, as well as some traditional Latin favorites and Spanish melodies. Take in the beautiful altar, lighted rosary, stations of the cross and gorgeous stained-glass windows that are a testament to a century of faith.
After Mass, a gathering in the school cafeteria will offer coffee, potica, pastries, fruit and sandwiches to rekindle friendships and make new ones by sharing stories, photos and memories. See if you can find your relatives in the photos of Holy Rosary Grade School, from 1929 to 1969. Bring photos of your parents and grandparents, of altar servers, choirs, class plays, classrooms, May crownings, Our Lady of Guadalupe processions, Christmas pageants, posadas and processions.
Bring a notepad to take phone numbers and addresses of old and new acquaintances. At previous Homecoming events, people shared their reminiscences of teachers, classmates, events and antics.
There will be a video set up to record your favorite story about Holy Rosary.
If you have any connection to Holy Rosary, join the event on Saturday, Oct. 5.
