Community Meeting Dec. 21,  City to Convert Radisson Hotel into House1000 Shelter

By the G.E.S. Gazette staff

The city will hold a required informational community meeting about its plans to begin using the Radisson Hotel at 4849 N. Bannock St. for a non-congregate shelter as part of Mayor Mike Johnston’s House1000 initiative.

The Radisson Hotel, 4849 N. Bannock St. The city is to provide information on its use for the House1000 initiative at a Dec. 21 meeting.

The city will present its plan for what it called Residential Care (Type 4) housing at the meeting on Thursday, Dec. 21, from 6-7 p.m. at Johnson Recreation Center (4809 Race St.).

The hotel, which recently housed approximately 40 migrant families, is intended to transition to the new use by the end of December. Migrant families residing in the hotel were notified of the change on Nov. 30, according to an email from the city, and were offered job placement services, housing placement and school support for students.

The city said that, with the zoning change, the site will be used as part of what it described as the “encampment resolution efforts” that have been underway across Denver since late July.

The Johnston administration is seeking approval from City Council for a contract with Bayaud Enterprises to serve as the site’s service provider. Services will include mental and physical health care, substance misuse care, case management, housing navigation and workforce training. The city added that every House1000 site will have staff on site 24 hours a day providing wraparound services, and that each site will have 24-7 security to ensure the safety of community members and the residents of the sites.
